Cancer Risk Increases Among Youngsters Undergoing CT Scans
According to a study carried out by Australian researchers, it has been revealed that cancer risk gets increased among youngsters who have undergone CT scan.
The study was carried out by a group of researchers from the Melbourne University School of Population and Global Health. The researchers have urged to levy a limit on the use of CT scans.
"Future CT scans should be limited to situations where there is a definite clinical indication, with every scan optimised to provide a diagnostic CT image at the lowest possible radiation dose", said the study.
The study, published on bmj. com, has found that youngsters who underwent CT scans were 24% more likely to suffer from cancer in comparison to others who have not undergone the scans.
Lead researcher Professor John Matthews said that if youngsters continued to undergo cancer then in the group of 10,000 youngsters, 39 cancers can be expected in the next 10 years.
In order to reach at the above given result, the researchers reviewed 10.9 million people and the data of the same was taken from Australian Medicare records. It has been recommended that doctors should compare benefit against the potential risk when it comes to CT scans.

Forza Motorsport 5 coming to Xbox One at launch (update: video)
Phil Spencer just hopped on stage at Microsoft's Xbox Reveal event and has just unveiled Forza Motorsport 5 for the Xbox One. While there's no firm launch date for the console just yet, the next-gen racing title will arrive on launch day when Redmond's next gaming box arrives later this year. Microsoft hasn't published the eye candy-filled trailer it just played up on stage, but you can be sure we'll update here when it does.

Egyptian troops mistakenly fire on a Sinai funeral
CAIRO (AP) ? Egyptian officials say troops and police mistakenly fired on a Bedouin funeral in the Sinai during a sweep searching for security personnel kidnapped by suspected militants.
A security official said a senior military officer offered an apology to the family of the dead man, who had drowned.
Security officials initially reported the incident as a clash with gunmen. The officials say police and troops had believed the funeral convoy of eight pickup trucks was carrying gunmen who refused orders to stop. The troops opened fire, and some among the mourners fired back before the mourners fled. The officials said one dead body was left behind, and troops believed they had killed him.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

Nationwide plans to issue new loss-absorbing debt
LONDON (Reuters) - Nationwide, Britain's biggest customer-owned financial services group, plans to issue a new form of so-called loss-absorbing debt in order to bolster its capital position.
Loss-absorbing debt is used by financial companies to protect themselves against a potential market downturn. Under certain circumstances, the debtholders would incur losses, thereby easing the burden on the issuer.
Nationwide could raise between 300 million and 500 million pounds through the issue of so-called core capital deferred shares (CCDS), though a source close to the building society said the size and timing of the issue had not yet been finalised.
Chief Executive Graham Beale said in an interview on the Financial Times website that Nationwide had been working on creating the new instrument as an alternative to permanent interest-bearing shares (Pibs), which are no longer regarded as core Tier 1 capital - a measure of financial strength favoured by regulators.
"We've been working with the regulators to design a new instrument and we've come up with something called core capital deferred shares or CCDS," Beale said. "It's not been issued yet but will ultimately replace Pibs so that organisations can top up capital or respond to needs for additional capital by using that new instrument."
The capital position of mutuals has been brought into focus by difficulties at the Co-operative Bank, which is facing a capital shortfall that some analysts say could be as large as 1.8 billion pounds.
Credit agency Moody's downgraded Co-op's debt ratings earlier in May, prompting the departure of the bank's chief executive, Barry Tootell.
Beale said Nationwide planned to issue the debt in the near future.
"I would say within the next 12 months is a realistic timeframe, nothing big, it's just really an issue to prove that there is an appetite," he said.

NEW YORK (AP) ? NBC went out of the company and out of the country to find a president for its news division, on Monday naming the first woman to hold the top job.
Deborah Turness, former editor of ITV News in Britain, replaces Steve Capus, who resigned earlier this year, and will begin her new job in August.
Turness will take over a news division bruised by the "Today" show losing its long-held dominant position in the morning to ABC's "Good Morning America." NBC's flagship "Nightly News" broadcast still tops the evening news ratings, but anchor Brian Williams recently saw his "Rock Center" newsmagazine abruptly canceled after less than two years on the air.
"It is quite simply the greatest imaginable honor to be named as the next president of NBC News," Turness said.
In NBC's new management structure, she reports to Pat Fili-Krushel, head of the NBC Universal News Group, as do MSNBC President Phil Griffin and CNBC President Mark Hoffman.
Fili-Krushel was not immediately available for comment. She said in a statement that Turness is "very familiar" with NBC News through a partnership the two networks have.
Turness, who is 46, became editor of ITV News in 2004, the first woman and youngest person to hold that job. Often overshadowed by the state-funded BBC, ITV is Britain's largest commercial television network. ITN, which is 40 percent owned by ITV, is Britain's top commercial news producer. Turness joined the company in 1988 as a news producer and worked for four years during the 1990s in the company's Washington bureau.
"Deborah epitomizes everything that is best about ITN, inspiring our newsrooms with her ideas, enthusiasm and energy," said John Hardie, CEO of ITN. As editor of ITV News, Turness was in charge of news coverage and business operations.
The morning will no doubt be her top priority upon joining NBC. The decline of "Today" is a major blow to the company's pride and bottom line. Women dominate the show's viewership and the ham-fisted replacement of anchor Ann Curry with Savannah Guthrie last year tore at the show's popularity. It has not gone unnoticed that men supervised the show during its turnover.
Within the next two years, Turness will likely be responsible for choosing Matt Lauer's successor on "Today" should the long-running anchor decide to leave.
"Nightly News" still has a comfortable lead in evening news ratings over ABC and CBS. But Turness will probably face lingering morale issues related to the cancellation of "Rock Center" after being bounced around the network's prime-time schedule.

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Iraq's wave of bloodshed sharply escalated Monday with more than a dozen car bombings across the country, part of attacks that killed at least 95 people and brought echoes of past sectarian carnage and fears of a dangerous spillover from Syria's civil war next door.
The latest spiral of violence ? which has claimed more than 240 lives in the past week ? carries the hallmarks of the two sides that brought nearly nonstop chaos to Iraq for years: Sunni insurgents, including al-Qaida's branch in Iraq, and Shiite militias defending their newfound power after Saddam Hussein's fall.
But the widening shadow and regional brinksmanship from Syria's conflict now increasingly threaten to feed into Iraq's sectarian strife, heightening concerns that Iraq could be turning toward civil war.
The Shiite-led government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki must balance its close ties with Iran ? the main regional ally of Syria's Bashar Assad ? and its position among fellow Arab League members and neighboring Turkey, which strongly back Syria's mainly Sunni opposition.
Al-Maliki appears determined to boost security crackdowns to keep Iraq's minority Sunnis from taking a more high-profile role in the anti-Assad forces, which have received pledges of support from the longtime insurgent group al-Qaida in Iraq.
There have been no claims of responsibility for the current flare-up of violence, capped by Monday's body count that was the highest death toll for a single day in 10 months. Yet some analysts believe it's difficult to separate Iraq's deep sectarian suspicions from the Shiite-Sunni split over Assad, which has also led to clashes in Lebanon.
"Iraq now has moved into a bigger circle that covers Syria and Lebanon," said Baghdad-based political affairs analyst Hadi Jalo.
Al-Maliki is not only worried about his Sunni rivals possibly deepening their involvement in the rebel cause in Syria, said Patrick Clawson, director of research at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Al-Maliki's worries extend to Iraq's semiautonomous northern Kurdish region, which has close links to Assad foe Turkey.
"Al-Maliki believes this is the time to be tough and show he is in control of the country," said Clawson. "What we are seeing is the backlash to that."
The U.S. and its Western allies strongly support Syria's political opposition, but have been reluctant to significantly boost weapons flow to rebel fighters because of worries over Islamic militants who have joined the anti-Assad brigades. But the deepening refugee crisis in the region, along with concern over spillover violence, is often cited by Arab states and Turkey urging greater Western intervention.
Sectarian tensions have been worsening since Iraq's minority Sunnis began expanding protests over what they say is mistreatment at the hands of the Shiite-led government. Many Sunnis contend that much of the country's current turmoil is rooted in the policies of al-Maliki's government, which they accuse of feeding sectarian tension by becoming more aggressive toward Sunnis after the U.S. military withdrawal in December 2011.
Mass demonstrations by Sunnis, which began in December, have largely been peaceful. However, the number of attacks rose sharply after a deadly security crackdown on a Sunni protest camp in northern Iraq on April 23.
Hours after Monday's stunning blitz of attacks ? stretching from north of Baghdad to the southern city of Basra ? al-Maliki accused militant groups of trying to exploit Iraq's political instability and vowed to resist attempts to "bring back the atmosphere of the sectarian war."
He also blamed the recent spike in violence on the wider unrest in the region, particularly Syria.
"You cannot remove the Syrian element from what's happening in Iraq," said Sami al-Faraj, director of the Kuwait Center for Strategic Studies. "The outcome of the war in Syria has big consequences for both Iraq's Sunnis and Shiites. What we see now is an extension of that in some respects."
The worst of Monday's violence took place in Baghdad, where 10 car bombs ripped through open-air markets and other areas of Shiite neighborhoods, killing at least 48 people and wounding more than 150, police officials said.
In Balad, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Baghdad, a car bomb exploded next to a bus carrying Iranian pilgrims, killing 13 Iranians and one Iraqi, a police officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media.
Meanwhile, in the predominantly Shiite city of Basra in southern Iraq, twin car bombings ? outside a restaurant and at the city's main bus station ? killed at least 13 people and wounded 40, according to provincial police spokesman Col. Abdul-Karim al-Zaidi and the head of the city's health directorate, Riadh Abdul-Amir.
"All of a sudden, a thunderous explosion lifted my car and put it back on the ground," said Sami Saadon, a Basra taxi driver who suffered shrapnel injuries in his chest. "I could barely open the door and I crawled outside the car, where smoke and dust were everywhere."
A car bomb later struck Shiite worshippers as they were leaving a mosque in the southern city of Hillah, killing nine and wounding 26, police and health officials said.
Monday's violence also struck Sunni areas.
A car bomb in Samarra, north of Baghdad, went off near a gathering of pro-government Sunni militia waiting outside a military base to receive salaries, killing three and wounding 13. In the western province of Anbar, the hub of Sunni power, gunmen ambushed two police patrols near the town of Haditha, killing eight policemen, officials said.
Also in Anbar, authorities found 13 bodies dumped in a remote desert area. The victims, who included eight policemen kidnapped by gunmen on Friday, had been killed by a gunshot to the head, officials said.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
The surge in bloodshed has exasperated Iraqis, who have lived for years with the fear and uncertainty bred of random violence.
"How long do we have to continue living like this, with all the lies from the government?" asked 23-year-old Baghdad resident Malik Ibrahim. "Whenever they say they have reached a solution, the bombings come back stronger than before."

More than 60 people were hospitalized Friday night after an eastbound commuter train derailed and collided with a westbound passenger train on an adjacent track near the Connecticut?suburb of Fairfield.
Eight people remained hospitalized on Saturday, three in critical condition, Connecticut?Governor?Dannel Malloy?said.
The collision of the?Metro-North trains forced Amtrak to shut down service indefinitely between New York and?Boston.
The governor is encouraging commuters who normally use the line to find alternative ways to get to work on Monday.
National Transportation Safety Board?investigators arrived at the scene on Saturday to determine the cause. There had been construction and repair work going on in the area and one question was whether debris was on the track.
"They can't rule anything out," said Malloy, adding that he wanted investigators to complete their work as quickly as possible so the busy commuter rail line could be reopened.
The eastbound train was headed to?New Haven, Connecticut, when it collided with the train bound for New York's Grand Central Station.
NTSB officials said several cars had derailed, not an entire train.
Malloy said the train cars were new and "designed to the latest standards" for safety and protection of passengers.
"To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that a car like this has been involved in this kind of incident and by all appearances they responded well," Malloy said. "One of the things you look at, for instance - did the seats become removed and that sort of stuff. It is going to take some more investigation. That is why they are here."
Metro-North is a commuter railroad serving the northern suburbs of New York City. It is operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, a New York state agency. Fairfield is about 50 miles (80 km) north of New York City.
The rail line serves a major corridor between?Boston?and New York. The?New Haven?line operated by?Metro-North is the busiest rail line in?America?and serves 125,000 commuters a day, said?Judd Everhart?of the?Connecticut Department of Transportation.
Malloy said the state Department of Transportation already has ordered the large equipment needed to remove the cars, which will be picked up and put on flatbeds to be taken to another location for further investigation.

Activists: Rebel groups kidnap in Syria's Aleppo
BEIRUT (AP) ? Syrian activists say that a wave of tit-for-tat kidnappings between rival Islamic militant groups in the northern city of Aleppo risks sparking large-scale internal fighting between rebels.
Rami Abdul-Rahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said Saturday that a coalition known as the Judicial Council had accused another rebel force, the Ghurabaa al-Sham, of robbing factories in Aleppo's industrial neighborhood.
He said the two groups clashed on Tuesday and the Judicial Council is now holding Ghurabaa al-Sham members captive. The Ghurabaa al-Sham is also holding Judicial Council members.
Aleppo-based activist Mohammed Saeed said Ghurabaa al-Sham withdrew its fighters from several neighborhoods, including the industrial area.
Aleppo is Syria's largest city and is split between rebel and government control.

There is an enchanted-fairy-tale aspect to Mud, but its bright, calm surface only barely disguises a strong, churning undercurrent.
A modern fairy tale, steeped in the sleepy Mississippi lore of Twain and similar American writers, and with a heart as big as the river is wide.
Nichols has a strong feeling for the tactility of natural elements-water, wood, terrain, weather.
Nichols takes his time with the story, dwelling on how the boy is shaped by the killer's tragic sense of romance, yet the suspense holds.
"Mud" isn't just a movie. It's the firm confirmation of a career.
"Mud" unfolds at its own pace, revealing its story in slivers. The performances are outstanding, especially from Sheridan, who plays tough, sweet, vulnerable and confused with equal conviction.
As Mud might say, it's a hell of a thing.
The boys are so skillfully played that Mud also plays like cinema verite. Nichols' fluid camerawork suggests a documentary-style approach. That helps these young lads transform into flesh-and-blood characters who get our attention and support.
Sheridan, who played the Terrence Malick surrogate in The Tree Of Life, is terrific at conveying adolescent confusion with tiny squints and frowns, and McConaughey plays off him masterfully.
Carefully crafting films that fly just below the political radar, director-writer Jeff Nichols is slowly, but surely, reweaving the fabric of the American dream.

This is a junior adventure story echoing Huckleberry Finn and Stand By Me, a tale which is in no hurry to unfold, but beautifully done, exquisitely performed, and filled with terror and wonder.

Nichols is a gifted writer-director who knows how to get into the heads of his characters. And this film has superior actors who create people who are intriguing and hugely involving.
'Mud' is a standout film in this 'coming of age' genre mainly because of its central character, one tough, warm-hearted, stubborn little kid who believes in the power of love, above all else.
Other than pacing problems that needlessly stretch the film past the two-hour mark, 'Mud' slings the dirt and sweat with the best of them, as it both mourns and celebrates a way of life that's all but disappeared.
A sublime coming-of-age film, 'Mud' would be the offspring if 'Stand By Me' and 'Cape Fear' reproduced.
Mud is a movie of striking performances and memorable images and of people who seem to belong in rather than being imposed upon their environment.
A brilliant metaphor for how a child deals with divorce.
This might be Mud. But it deserves to stick.
This is a film that gives McConaughey the chance to be an actor rather than a star, and, not for the first time, he grabs the opportunity.
Gone is the rom-com character and emphasis on a toothy smile and six-pack abs. Matthew McConaughey is showing off some acting chops.
Mud is, perhaps, a little longer than it needed to be, but few sensitive viewers will begrudge Nichols his indulgence. This director is the real thing.
Writer-director Nichols continues to get inside the heads of his characters with this involving but overlong dramatic thriller.

Lawmakers from both parties are expected to grill the outgoing acting head of the agency, Steven Miller, and the Treasury Department inspector general for tax administration, J. Russell George, about the growing scandal that threatens to eclipse President Barack Obama's second-term agenda.
Miller was forced to resign on Wednesday, and Obama has since appeared in public twice to condemn the IRS's actions and promise full cooperation with three congressional investigations and a Justice Department probe.
Members of the House Ways and Means Committee are expected to press Miller at the hearing about why he did not disclose the practice of targeting conservative groups after learning about it in 2012, even when he was questioned about it by members of Congress.
Republicans, who have demanded more answers and angrily accused the administration of using government powers to target political foes, also are likely to question whether other groups or donors were singled out because of their political views, and whether the White House knew of the practice.
The hearing is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. EDT (1300 GMT).
"There are still far too many unanswered questions and until we know what truly happened, we cannot fully fix what is wrong," said Committee Chairman Dave Camp, a Republican from Michigan.
"The IRS has demonstrated a culture of cover up and has failed time and time again to be completely open and honest with the American people," Camp said.
George, who investigated the complaints against the IRS, issued a public report earlier this week that blamed ineffective management and bureaucratic confusion at the IRS for the agency's inappropriate targeting of conservative political groups for extra scrutiny when considering applications for tax-exempt status.
But George also could face vigorous questioning from Republicans about why he did not issue warnings about the practice earlier.
The political storm over the scandal has put Obama on the defensive at a time when he is negotiating with Republicans on a budget deal and trying to push a comprehensive immigration reform bill through Congress.
Two other committees, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, also will hold IRS hearings next week.
"COMMON SENSE"
Representative Devin Nunes of California, a Republican member of the Ways and Means panel, said Friday's hearing will kick off a months-long investigative process. Nunes said he was suspicious of the tax agency's motives in targeting groups with names that included "Tea Party" or "Patriot."
"Common sense tells me it probably just wasn't two low-level employees in Cincinnati sitting around strategizing about how to go after the Tea Party," Nunes told reporters on Thursday.
Representative Sander Levin of Michigan, the top Democrat on the panel, said he was concerned that Republicans could turn the probe into a partisan witchhunt.
"There is a tendency to politicize. That would be a terrible mistake," Levin told reporters. "There are people who conjecture, who are trying to make connections. If there is no basis for it, that is also a mistake."
Camp and Levin sent the IRS a letter on Tuesday outlining the information they were seeking in the probe, including all documents relating to the targeting and any information on who knew about the practice and when they became aware of it.
The letter also asked for any other organizations singled out for their political views and the search terms used to find them, as well as all documents related to possible special reviews of groups whose missions involved Israel and all communication with the White House on the process.
Given the three congressional investigations and the Justice probe, Obama said, there was no need for a special prosecutor to look into the allegations.
"Between those investigations I think we're going to be able to figure out exactly what happened, who was involved, what went wrong, and we're going to be able to implement steps to fix it," Obama said at a Rose Garden news conference on Thursday.

Real Estate Market Trends: Home Building Slows in April ...
The rate of new home construction fell 16.5 percent in the month of April, following a 7 percent increase in March, while the number of permits issued rose 14.3 percent, after declining by 3.9 percent in March, according to real estate market trends reported by the Commerce Department today.
New home construction took place at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 853,000 in April, down considerably from the annual rate of more than 1.02 million for March, but 13.1 percent higher than the annual rate of 754,000 in April 2012, the Commerce Department reported.
The slump in new construction helped drag down stocks in morning trading, according to Bloomberg News, as the markets reacted to disappointing housing, employment and manufacturing data.
Building permits ? a forward-looking indicator of real estate market trends ? were issued at an annual rate of more than 1.01 million, an increase of 14.3 percent from the annual rate of 890,000 for March and 35.8 percent higher than the annual rate of 374,000 in April 2012.
Confidence among home builders rose in May, reversing months of declining confidence, according to real estate market trends reported yesterday by the National Association of Home Builders, a trade association based in Washington, D.C. The association?s Housing Market Index rose three points to a reading of 44 on improved perceptions of sales conditions, sales expectations and buyer traffic. Despite the increase, the index remains well below 50, a point that signals equal numbers of builders view real estate market trends as positive or negative.

U.S. home prices are forecast to rise by 2.5 percent in 2013, according to the analytics firm CoreLogic, and to keep rising by 3.9 percent a year over the next five years.

CFTC Waters Down Derivatives Rule In Victory For Wall Street
The U.S. regulator overseeing the derivatives market is set to retreat from an ambitious proposal that would have increased competition in the swaps market, handing victory to large banks including JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission will vote Thursday on final rules that will govern a large portion of transactions in the $633 trillion swaps market. Derivatives are known as swaps because they ?swap? risk from one party to another.
The impending regulations will determine how many prices buyers of swaps must solicit when trying to enter into a derivatives contract, the minimum size of large transactions that can be traded outside transparent trading platforms, and how trades can occur on derivatives marketplaces known as ?swap execution facilities,? according to officials and agency documents.
Roughly five years after previously unregulated derivatives helped fuel the downfall of large financial institutions and led to a global financial crisis, the rules to be voted on by the five-member commission, led by Gary Gensler, Democratic chairman, represent a big portion of the government's response to rein in risky activities under the Dodd-Frank overhaul of U.S. financial regulation, while also helping to determine the profitability of swaps trading for dealers such as Citigroup and Bank of America.
After failing to persuade a majority of his commission, Gensler conceded on the price solicitation proposal, known as ?requests for quote,? or RFQ, officials said. Gensler had originally proposed that buyers of swaps such as institutional investors solicit a minimum of five quotes before entering into a swap.
But the largest global banks, including Deutsche Bank, Barclays and Morgan Stanley, fiercely objected to the five-quote minimum, according to comment letters filed with the agency. The proposal was intended to increase price transparency and encourage wider participation beyond the small number of dominant dealers in a bid to diffuse risk and lower prices for institutional investors and companies that purchase swaps to offset risk.
Tens of billions of dollars in annual revenues at the world?s largest banks are at stake, analysts have estimated. Some of the world?s biggest asset managers also objected to Gensler?s proposal, and argued for flexibility.
Opposition from the two Republican commissioners -- Scott O?Malia and Jill Sommers -- and Mark Wetjen, Democratic commissioner, led Gensler to compromise on the final RFQ rule, according to people familiar with the matter. The three commissioners had settled on a two-RFQ minimum, these people said.
The agency internally considered a number of compromises, including one that would have determined the RFQ minimums based on how often certain types of swaps were traded. Traders of illiquid swaps were thought to suffer in a regime in which buyers had to solicit five quotes, based on the theory that the market would turn against them once it became known that they were looking to make a transaction. A compromise that called for a lower RFQ minimum for illiquid instruments was thought to have a chance.
In the final rule, swaps buyers will be able to solicit only two prices through swap execution facilities trading platforms for the first year after the rule is in effect, with the minimum requirement increasing to three quotes thereafter, officials said.
Gensler?s term expires this December. A future chairman could keep the RFQ minimum at two solicitations before the three-RFQ rule goes into effect.
The agency will allow voice brokers -- middlemen that facilitate trades between buyers and sellers over the phone -- to operate swap execution facilities. The voice brokerage business was once thought to be among the bigger losers of the government?s overhaul of the swaps market, as officials emphasized electronic trading.
The CFTC also is poised to vote on a rule that will finalize proposals governing so-called ?block trades,? or large transactions that allow market participants to strike deals in private and report details after a delay.
Agency officials led by Gensler have pushed for a high threshold, in hopes of pushing more transactions onto transparent trading platforms.

White House releases Benghazi documents
President Barack Obama at a Democratic Party fundraiser at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York, May 13, 2013.??Under heavy political pressure, the White House on Wednesday released 100 pages of internal Obama Administration emails in which senior officials debated what to tell Americans about the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya.
The emails show that the CIA on Sept. 14, 2012 drafted the requested talking points regarding the attack and removed references to al-Qaida and changed Benghazi "attacks" to Benghazi "demonstrations" before the White House saw the talking points.
"The attacks in Benghazi were spontaneously inspired by the protests at the US Embassy in Cairo," read one phrase in the original talking points.
That was changed later that afternoon to read: "the demonstrations in Benghazi were spontaneously inspired by the protests" because senior administration officials said it was deemed an awkward account of events.
The original memo referred to "Islamic extremists with ties to al-Qai'da" participating in the attack, but the reference to extremists was later couched and the reference to al Qaida was removed citing the ongoing FBI investigation.
The emails show those changes were made before concerns expressed by the State Department.
Victoria Nuland, who served as State Department spokeswoman, expressed concern over the CIA's version of the talking points which included security warnings. Senior administration officials said Wednesday that CIA deputy director Michael Morell supported those changes independently prior to being aware of Nuland's concerns.
One page in the 100 page document dump includes handwritten notes from Morell, including a mistake where officials say the director accidentally redacted a bullet point.
The emails show the White House's claim to have requested a "stylistic" change-- Benghazi "consulate" to "diplomatic post"-- to be true.
A senior administration official told reporters Wednesday that the White House had taken the step of releasing the emails-- as they were provided to members of Congress-- following misinformation regarding the exchanges and allegations of a coverup.
Republicans have charged that the White House played down the role of suspected terrorists in the attack, which left four Americans dead including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens. GOP lawmakers have said that President Barack Obama's reelection campaign did not want to undermine its message that al-Qaida was on the run. Obama has flatly denied any attempt to deceive the public, and on Monday he called the allegations a "sideshow" that dishonors the memories of those killed.
The documents released do not appear to contain references that would suggest a politically-motivated coverup.
A spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner released a statement shortly after the White House released the emails Wednesday suggesting that Republicans would not let up on demanding more information about the federal government's response to the attack in Benghazi.
?The House interim report found that ?senior State Department officials requested the talking points be changed to avoid criticism for ignoring the threat environment in Benghazi? and that those changes were ultimately made," Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck said. "Those findings are confirmed by the emails released today, and they contradict statements made by the White House that it and the State Department only changed one word in the talking points. The seemingly political nature of the State Department?s concerns raises questions about the motivations behind these changes and who at the State Department was seeking them. This release is long overdue and there are relevant documents the Administration has still refused to produce. We hope, however, that this limited release of documents is a sign of more cooperation to come.?
Some of the back-and-forth has centered on the email messages among top officials looking to craft "talking points" for members of Congress just a few days after the attack. The White House has accused Republicans of pushing "fabricated" messages to damage the administration.
On Wednesday, senior administration officials briefed reporters on the messages and provided binders of 100 pages of emails. The officials said the communications would show that the CIA led the changes to the talking points, including alterations that Republicans claim show a political motive. The officials went through the emails page by page.

MOSCOW (AP) ? Russian state television aired footage Wednesday from Russia's security services claiming that another alleged American spy was expelled earlier this year.
Russia on Tuesday ordered U.S. diplomat Ryan Fogle to leave the country after the security services claimed to have caught him red-handed trying to recruit a Russian agent in Moscow. The FSB, the successor to the Soviet-era KGB, alleged that Fogle, a third secretary at the U.S. Embassy, worked for the CIA.
In the footage aired Wednesday, a man sitting in near darkness who was identified only as an FSB operative said a "CIA operative" was expelled in January. He said the FSB then asked its U.S. counterparts to halt this "disturbing activity."
The man also claimed the Russians had been shadowing Fogle since he began his Moscow posting in 2011.
There was no immediate way for The Associated Press to confirm that the person in the video was indeed an FSB operative.
The U.S. Embassy had no comment on the video.
U.S. Ambassador Michael McFaul was summoned Wednesday to the Russian Foreign Ministry, which said it handed him a formal protest over the incident. McFaul spent about a half hour at the ministry and left without speaking to journalists.
McFaul has had a difficult time in Moscow since he took up his post in January 2012. He provoked the ire of Russian officials when one of his first acts was to invite a group of opposition activists and rights advocates to the U.S. embassy.
Fogle, 29, appeared to be the first American diplomat in Moscow publicly accused of spying in about a decade.
Mark Galeotti, a professor at New York University who studies the Russian security services, said these kinds of spying incidents happen with some frequency, but usually they are dealt with quietly. He said the public exposure of Fogle suggests Russia is using it for domestic political purposes.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has accused the United States of meddling in Russia's political affairs, has portrayed opposition leaders as American stooges and ordered a crackdown on Russian nongovernmental organizations that receive foreign funding.
The U.S. spy scandal and the pictures of Fogle's detention, which have been splashed across state television, reinforce the message that the U.S. remains a threat.
The State Department confirmed that Fogle worked as an embassy employee but would give no details about his job. The CIA declined comment.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has ordered Fogle to leave Russia immediately but his exact whereabouts were not known Wednesday.
Despite the end of the Cold War, Russia and the United States still maintain active espionage operations against each other. Last year, several Russians were convicted in separate cases of spying for the U.S. and sentenced to lengthy prison sentences.

NATO: 4 US troops killed in Afghanistan
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) ? A roadside bomb struck a U.S. convoy and killed four American troops in southern Afghanistan Tuesday, while a motorcycle bomb in a crowded village market in a neighboring province killed at least three people, officials said.
The blast that hit the American convoy took place in the Zhari district of Kandahar province, said NATO spokesman Col. Thomas Collins. Kandahar is the spiritual heartland of the Taliban, and one of the most volatile regions in Afghanistan. Several service members were also wounded, although the extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
The attack follows a truck bombing a day earlier on a NATO outpost in Helmand province that killed three Georgian soldiers. So far this year, 58 international service troops have been killed in Afghanistan, according to an Associated Press count. Of those, 44 are U.S. service members.
Earlier Tuesday, a bomb hidden in a parked motorcycle ripped through a packed market in the village of Safar in Helmand, according to Omer Zawak, the spokesman for the provincial governor. Three people were killed and seven were wounded in the blast, he said, warning that the toll could rise.
Four children were among the wounded, two critically, police spokesman Shah Mahmood Hashna said.
In the northern province of Kapisa, a suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a U.S. Special Operation Forces convoy as it was returning to base after clearing land mines, according to NATO spokesman, Maj. Bryan Woods. He said there were no casualties in the attack.
However, Qais Qadri, spokesman for the Kapisa governor, said one civilian was killed.
