Margie Evans | My Family Tree is Full of Nuts

Margie Evans was suppose to be married to my one of my great uncles, George Rice Vanzant who was born 19 May 1894 in Pennsylvania and he died 28 July 1939 and is buried in Edgemont Cemetery, Anniston, AL

As the story told to me by Aunt Margaret Epps Scogins is he was a stage hand and he met Margie. She was and actress and she was huge. He brought her to their home in Piedmont, AL and she was so big that she could not sit on the front porch swing.

They were supposedly married and lived in Anniston, AL for a while. She did not like it and left to go back to New York. They married in NY.

I wrote The Shubert Archive?, 149 West 45St Street, New York, NY 10036 to see if they had any records on a actress Margie Evans and this is what I got back.

Fat Margie Longs For Real Romance

300-pounder in ?Artists and Models? Can?t Find Some One To Love Her.

N.Y. Review 1/14/28

Everybody may love a fat man but no one seems to want a fat woman. Witness the plight of Margie Evans.

Several years ago Margie made a bid for the movies and landed as the fat lady in the comics. After the first glamour of the screen wore off, Margie turned her thoughts to more tender subjects than the hurling of custard pies. She discovered that her girth- she was known in the movies as the perfect 56- was an obstacle in the matrimonial race.

Margie began to reduce and did it so effectively that she lost her movie contract last spring. She then joined ?Artists and Models? and now has received word that if she loses any more weight she will not be able to play the heavy lady much longer.

When Margie first started to reduce she weighed a trifle over 450 pounds and was down to 380 when seh left the movies. She has lost an additional 80 pounds since being with the revue at the Winter Garden and now is faced with the decision of giving up her romantic aspirations or putting on additional avoirdupois.

She would like to know if there aren?t any men who admire slightly plump ladies?

My note: evidentally they were because according to my family they married in NY and moved to Anniston, Alabama where she became very unhappy and moved back to NY. I have a picture of her and will post it another time when I take time to load all my pictures here. If anybody has any information on Margie please contact me at SadieMaesAttic@aol.com

Social Media & Excellent Customer Service Wow Customers

May 29, 2012

A well organized social media strategy gets your name, story and ideals in front of potential customers with every post. When they come to you, greet them with a gold-standard experience of a lifetime and they?ll stay with you. Superior customer service will make all the difference to your company?s brand experience.

1. Develop a Social Media Strategy

  • Developing a social media strategy is not as easy as hiring an intern to do everything and hoping it works out. There are many moving parts and people who have to get involved to make it work well.
  • Formulate a plan and get a top-down commitment on why you?re participating in various social media platforms. What do you want to achieve for your company? What makes success? Which platforms does your target audience use? Who will supply new content and how often will it be posted? Who will supervise it all?
  • Start your social media plan with a blog, offering insight into your business category. Each blog post, besides affecting search engine optimization of your website, can drive referral traffic to it. In addition, you can condense and syndicate blog posts for Twitter and Facebook.

2. Establish a Gold Standard of Service

  • In all business categories, the defining moment when a customer makes the decision whether to purchase from you or your competition comes down to just one element: service ? the overall experience of dealing with your company.
  • How you structure your customer service experience is a critical part of your marketing plan, but few companies give it the time and training it deserves, leaving it an intangible line item.
  • If your company doesn?t have a gold-standard benchmark, pick your own. Choose not only from companies, but from personal experiences that really shook you to the core. Then live up to it.
  • If you don?t have a company to emulate or an experience to relate to as a gold standard, start here: The Ritz Carlton Gold Standard may be all you?ll ever need!

3. The 60-Second Close: The Brand Experience

  • There are many companies making national business news for the defining way they treat their customers. Big or small, businesses that focus on the customer?s experience are winning the battles by offering things that we take for granted every day. It?s about the wow factor, the experiences, the small cordialities ? the things that you can?t count, but really do count.
  • The customer?s experience should be a tangible part of your online and offline marketing plan. Need help in developing that brand experience? Call us. We can get you there, now much faster than ever.

Devils make Cup finals after 3-2 win over Rangers

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) ? The memory of missing the playoffs for first time since 1996 and the ghost of an 18-year-old wound were wiped out with a sweep of rookie Adam Henrique's stick.

The New Jersey Devils are going back to the Stanley Cup finals, thanks to Henrique, a 40-year-old goaltender and a coach who'd never been to the postseason in the NHL.

How's that for a turnaround?

Henrique scored off a wild scramble in front at 1:03 into overtime and the Devils defeated the rival New York Rangers, 3-2, in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals to advance to their first Stanley Cup finals since 2003.

"It means a lot," Devils leading scorer Ilya Kovalchuk said minutes after reaching the Cup finals for the first time. "It's a great feeling. Last year was a tough one, but this year was totally different. We played well all year. The first round of the playoffs was a little tough but after that, I think we figured out our game and what it takes to win."

After beating Florida, Philadelphia and their biggest rivals, the Rangers, only the Los Angeles Kings stand in the way of a fourth Cup for New Jersey.

The title round begins here Wednesday.

This series win came against the Devils' most intense rival, and it was that much sweeter.

"That one was like Christmas," said Henrique, who also scored the series winner in overtime as Devils' first-round, Game 7 win over the Panthers.

It also was needed. The Devils blew a 2-0 first-period lead and didn't want to head back to New York for a Game 7 on Sunday.

"It didn't matter how it got to overtime, we were in a good position," Devils captain Zach Parise said. "We were at home. We just needed one shot."

Actually, the Devils needed four shots to win the game.

Henrique's winner came after Henrik Lundqvist stopped Kovalchuk twice and Alexei Ponikarovsky. The last shot lay in the crease and Henrique tapped it home.

"We caught them on a line change and their defensemen were tired," said Devils coach Peter DeBoer, who was fired by Florida after missing the playoffs in his three seasons. "We found a way to jam one in. That's the only way you're going to score on Lundqvist. You're not going to get a clean one. You're going to have to work for it around the net.

"And that's what we did."

Ryan Carter and Kovalchuk also scored for the Devils, whose biggest move this year was hiring DeBoer. He has more than proved his coaching ability.

Ruslan Fedotenko and Ryan Callahan tallied for top-seeded New York, which had a good flurry just before New Jersey scored to end it.

Henrique, who is nominated for the Calder Trophy ? given to the NHL's top rookie ? skated away from the crease and jumped against the end boards in the corner as his teammates hopped off the bench and mobbed him.

The six Rangers on the ice just stayed down in disbelief and frustration. This was very much like Game 5, which the Devils won 5-3. New York carried the play after the first period and had a 35-29 edge in shots.

But when it came time for a game-deciding play to be made, it was a Devil who made it.

"When they scored, it was such an empty feeling," said Lundqvist, who said the puck took a weird bounce on the final play. "It is shocking."

Henrique overcame injury to score this one. He seemed to take a stick from Brian Boyle in the groin area late in the third and had to leave the ice.

He felt no pain after the game winner.

All the Rangers could do was bow their heads and then line up for the traditional handshake after losing to their cross-rival rivals in a series that was close.

"That's playoff hockey, and that's usually where you get an overtime goal," Rangers veteran Brandon Prust said. "Just whacking away in front of the net, getting rebounds."

Martin Brodeur, 40, kept the Devils alive in the third. He stopped a power-play shot by Brad Richards, made a save on Artem Anisimov between the circles and used his stick to deflect a pass from the boards by Carl Hagelin in the final minute just before it got to Marian Gaborik on the edge of the crease.

"You could tell he was in the zone. He led us," Parise said. "He made some big saves tonight."

Lundqvist's best stop in the third was on Dainius Zubrus on a shot from behind the circles.

Facing elimination and down 2-0 after 20 minutes, the Rangers found their game in the second period and tied the game at 2-all on goals by Fedotenko and Callahan in a roughly four-minute span.

Defenseman Ryan McDonagh, who assisted on both goals, made the big play to get New York back in the game. He collected the puck above the left circle, skated around the net and tried a wrap around. The shot didn't go on goal but it turned out to be a perfect pass to Fedotenko who a tap-in into an open net at 9:47.

Callahan, who had a New York goal go off his leg in the Devils' 5-3 win on Wednesday, tied the game at 13:41 when Dan Girardi's shot from the right point deflected off his leg into the open lower corner of the net. Callahan's sixth of the postseason was set up when Brandon Dubinsky won a faceoff in the left circle.

Carter, who scored the game winner in New York on Wednesday night after the Devils blew a 3-0 lead, put New Jersey ahead again at 10:05 of the opening period.

The play started with a bad pinch at the point by Rangers defenseman Marc Staal. Steve Bernier led a 3-on-1 and found Stephen Gionta coming down the middle for a solo chance against Lundqvist. The Rangers goaltender stopped the shot, but Carter swatted the rebound home for his fourth of the playoffs.

Kovalchuk's seventh goal of the postseason and fifth on the power play was a thing of beauty. All five Devils skaters touched the puck with tape-to-tape passes with Zubrus finding Kovalchuk alone low in the left circle for a shot that Lundqvist had little chance to stop.

The Devils ? as is the tradition for many Cup finalists ? did not touch the Prince of Wales Trophy that was presented at center ice. As the team skated off to their locker room, "Glory Days," the 1984 hit from New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen serenaded them.

The game was played on the 18-year anniversary of the Rangers' dramatic, 4-2, Game 6 victory over New Jersey at the Meadowlands, a victory that pushed that classic Eastern Conference final series to a Game 7 and eventually led New York to its first Stanley Cup in 54 years. That game, of course, was preceded by a guarantee from Rangers captain Mark Messier, who delivered three goals en route to the victory.

This time, though, there will be no Game 7.

NOTES: The Empire State Building's tower lights were lit in red and blue on Friday to cheer on the Rangers. ... Mogul and TV personality Donald Trump was at the game. ... Devils C Travis Zajac left the ice briefly in the second after being slashed on the left hand by Prust. No penalty was called. ... New Jersey is 4-1 in overtime in the postseason. New York finished 2-3 after regulation. ... This is only the second time the Devils have defeated the Rangers in the postseason in six tries. ... The last time New Jersey played in the Stanley Cup finals, the Devils also played a California team: the Anaheim Ducks in 2003.

Video Promotion Must-Knows | Michael Wass | Consultant, Business ...

Perhaps, by now, you have already decided to join the 21st century and become part of the video advertising on the internet world. Just like many other smart business people and other individuals. We have gone what video advertising is, the types of businesses and individuals who use this media and the benefits of entertaining potential customers with this type of product.

You have now realized that video advertising is not only more effective, but may end up costing you less money in advertising in the long run. We have also talked about different ways you can do your own marketing using video advertising for free.

If you have decided to contact an advertising company about using video advertising on the internet, such as Google or Microsoft, which is now coming out with a new program, you will have many different options as to where your videos can be placed.

Just like television advertising, you will want to reach your target audience. This means that a video advertising a rock band will not be promoted on a website that deals with travel. The wonderful thing about using a professional service is that they know exactly what websites are out there and where to promote your video.

Costs for using a professional advertising agency will depend upon how often you want the video used, the sites you want it to be used on, and the length of the video. Naturally, if you want your video splashed across Yahoo?s front page, it is going to cost you a lot more than if you want it on a blog that accepts google ads.

The choice will be up to you. Perhaps you own a travel business and are promoting a tour to Cancun. This is a tour that will be all inclusive and is a great deal. Where will it be promoted?

The video can be promoted on websites that are upscale and perhaps designed for either families or couples. For example, if you are advertising a romantic getaway to Cancun, this can be placed on a variety of websites. Dating sites may be one. Websites for jewelry companies can be another. Any site that is designed for romance or married people or couples is a target. Certain travel magazines have websites, this may be an excellent place to advertise your romantic getaway.

Perhaps you are offering a three day stay in Disney World. You will want your target audience to be people with children. There are many different family oriented websites on the internet, parenting advice websites and so forth. The advertiser will know where to find them and how much it will cost to advertise. This is what you are paying for ? their expertise of knowing the best websites on which to advertise on the internet.

If you do not want to spend a lot of money but have a quirky type of ad that can generate business and maybe has a little humor to it, it may be advertised on someone?s blog. Many people have discovered the joy of blogging and certain internet blogging websites offer google ads for bloggers. The ads are free and the person who blogs gets a little bit of money every time someone clicks on your ad. The advertisers know the blogs that get the most traffic and your quirky little ad might just start making the rounds all over the internet.

If you want to place the video ad on your website or on free internet websites that allow videos, you will have to make sure that your contract stipulates that you have the right to do this. While some advertising companies will allow you to promote your own ad, others will not. Some want exclusive rights. If the advertising company actually developed the video ad for you, they will retain exclusive rights and you will not be able to use it anywhere without their written permission.

Video ads can go just about anywhere banner ads go. The beauty of the video ad, however, is that it is more closely paid attention to than a banner ad and you do not run the risk of someone accidentally clicking onto it.

There are literally millions of websites on the internet. Web advertisers are familiar with the traffic that these sites generate. Your fee will be based upon the amount of traffic the website expects to see.

In addition, the length of your video matters a great deal in video advertising. It is best to keep it short. Not only is it cheaper to run the video ad this way, but people generally have a short attention span and something that is too long generally bores them.

Take a look at television commercials prior to embarking on your video ad venture. See which ones you pay attention to and which ones you can?t even remember. See which ones you get bored of and dread every time they come on. Your video advertising is similar to this. No one wants to constantly see a long, boring video all over the internet. A short, entertaining video that is used sporadically, however, will generate more interest and may even develop a cult following.

People are crazy about internet videos. They use them on their personal internet community pages such as MySpace and Facebook and often e-mail them to their friends and relatives. This can happen to you. You may come up with an advertisement that is clever, entertaining and brings you instant internet notoriety.

If you decide not to use a professional agency, you will be able to put the video anywhere that is free. You can also act as your own advertising agent and make deals with certain websites yourself. This can be difficult and you should have some knowledge about copyright laws and legal contracts before doing this. And unlike the professionals, you may not know much about the website. Unfortunately, on the internet, websites come and go. You would hate to make a deal and pay money to advertise on a site that closes within the next week.

If you use a professional internet advertising agency, chances are that you will hit your target audience with your video ad and will find it more successful than a banner ad. Your video will be able to go just about any place on the internet that your banner ad can go, or your word ad. The difference will be that more people will pay attention to what you are trying to sell.

BostonGlobe reports for the first time in seven months, prices for single-family homes in Massachusetts rose modestly, 1.1%, as the median price hit $275,000 in April, according to Boston real estate company Warren Group. The number of single-family homes sold in April rose almost 22 percent over April 2011, marking the third consecutive month of increases. Statewide, for the first four months of 2012 sales of single-family homes rose 18 percent over the same period last year. Prices fell 20 percent 2005 to 2009, and Eric Belsky of Harvard?s Joint Center for Housing Studies, says this is the first time since the home buyers tax credits ended that prices are rising on their own. One real estate broker who focuses on downtown Boston says total sales this year have already surpassed all of 2011. MHProNews.com has learned Michael Goodman, asst. prof. of public policy at the Univ. of Massachusetts, noting the western part of the state is still struggling, says ?We are going to really need to see some sustained growth in sales volumes and median prices to declare the downturn is over.?

Kim Zolciak: Topless for Kroy Biermann!

In case you were one of the sane individuals who missed last night's episode of Don't Be Tardy for the Wedding, consider this a nauseating recap:

Kim Zolciak went topless.

As a pre-wedding day gift for fiance Kroy Biermann, the reality star placed pasties over her nipples and painted her bare torso, complaining at first about her messy yard and lack of a flower person for the nuptials - "This photo shoot is the last thing I have on my mind" - before deciding to just go through with it because:

"I'm so damn sexy, f-ck it."

Landmark deal will end the Afghan War for the West

CHICAGO (Reuters) - NATO mapped an "irreversible" course out of Afghanistan on Monday but President Barack Obama admitted the Western alliance's plan to end the deeply unpopular war in 2014 was fraught with risk.

A landmark NATO summit in Chicago endorsed an exit strategy that calls for handing control of Afghanistan to its own security forces by the middle of next year but left major questions unanswered about how to prevent a slide into chaos and a Taliban resurgence after allied troops are gone.

The two-day meeting of the 28-nation military bloc marked a milestone in a war sparked by the September 11 attacks that has spanned three U.S. presidential terms and even outlasted al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Obama and NATO partners sought to show their war-weary voters the end is in sight in Afghanistan - a conflict that has strained Western budgets as well as patience - while at the same time trying to reassure Afghans that they will not be abandoned.

Alliance leaders acquiesced to new French President Francois Hollande's insistence on sticking to his campaign pledge to withdraw French troops by December 31, two years ahead of NATO's timetable. While there was no sign this would send other allies rushing for the exits, leaders could face pressures at home.

"We are now unified behind a plan to responsibly wind down the war in Afghanistan," Obama told the summit's closing news conference.

But despite a face-to-face encounter with Pakistan's president, Obama failed to resolve a dispute overhanging the summit - Islamabad's refusal to reopen supply routes to NATO in Afghanistan seen as vital to an orderly withdrawal.

The summit's final communiqu? ratified plans for the NATO-led army to hand over command of all combat missions to Afghan forces by the middle of 2013 and for the withdrawal of most of the 130,000 foreign troops by the end of the following year.

The statement deemed it an "irreversible" transition to full security responsibility for fledgling Afghan troops, and said NATO's mission in 2014 would shift to a training and advisory role. "This will not be a combat mission," it said.

Doubts remain, however, whether Afghan forces will have the capability to stand up against a still-potent Taliban insurgency that Western forces have failed to defeat in nearly 11 years of fighting.

"Are there risks involved?" Absolutely," Obama conceded to reporters, saying the Taliban remained a "robust enemy" and that NATO's gains on the ground were still fragile.

Obama, who has steadily narrowed his goals in Afghanistan since taking office in 2009, said: "We can achieve a stable Afghanistan that won't be perfect ... and we can begin rebuilding America."

With an eye to the November presidential election, Obama has made winding down the decade-old Afghan war a campaign theme his aides hope will help ease voter anguish over a slow U.S. economic recovery and stubbornly high unemployment, the electorate's top concerns.

"TERRORIST THREAT"

While Obama insisted Afghanistan should never again be used to plot attacks on other nations, a senior British official said: "It is unrealistic to assume that Afghanistan is going to be completely secure and there is no possibility of a terrorist threat re-emerging."

Obama spoke of "diligent progress" but no breakthrough with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on the supply lines issue after they spoke briefly on the sidelines of the summit.

Frustrated NATO officials have also been trying to persuade Pakistan to reopen its territory to NATO supplies, which Islamabad has blocked since NATO forces killed 24 Pakistani soldiers in a cross-border incident last year.

With Europe's debt crisis hanging over the summit and many member-governments limited by austerity budgets, Obama also struggled to pin down final commitments from allies for the $4.1 billion a year needed to support Afghan security forces.

The funding - which will undergird Afghan's capacity to fight the Taliban and is considered vital to a smooth NATO departure - was not expected to be fully realized at the summit, but alliance officials believe it will eventually be provided.

NATO diplomats said thinking had moved to the logistical challenge of getting a large multinational army out of the Afghan mountains and deserts and back home safely.

As Zardari, an uneasy U.S. partner, sat with other leaders around a circular table, Obama pointedly thanked Afghanistan's neighbors who have allowed expanded shipments of war supplies since Pakistan closed off ground routes to NATO truck convoys.

The U.S. commander in Afghanistan, General John Allen, told Reuters he was confident a deal would eventually be struck, but "whether it's in days or weeks, I don't know."

NATO is seeking to compensate in the meantime with a framework agreement with Afghanistan's northern neighbor, Uzbekistan, to allow "reverse transit" of NATO supplies from Afghanistan.

Friction remains between NATO and Pakistan over Taliban guerrillas who are still finding sanctuary in Pakistan, in spite of Islamabad's professed support for the alliance's mission.

Is your HDTV underperforming? Here' s a quick fix

9 hrs.

Every TV has one: a button that zooms in on the picture, or changes the aspect ratio. Sometimes called View Mode, Format, Size, Zoom, or something similar, these modes have a variety of names, but all have the same purpose.

In reality, most of the time there is only one ?correct? mode, the other modes offering less resolution, possible artifacts, and in a few limited cases, a better picture.

Overscan
One of the primary reasons why these controls exist is a ?feature? called Overscan. In the olden days, TV makers had a lot of wiggle room in defining the edges of the image. So two TVs, of the same size, might show slightly more or less of the broadcast image. At the edges of the image, there was frequently a lot of noise (some of which was part of the image, some not).

Even in the early days of HD, many stations broadcast a few pixels of noise, so a TV was better off showing, let?s say, 1900 x 1060 of the original signal, than blowing it up to fill the 1920 x 1080 screen.

And that ?blowing up? is the problem.

Scaling
Every pixel on your TV is active, regardless of the resolution of the source. With DVDs, the TV upconverts (aka scales) the image to fill the screen. It is creating information that is not in the original source, in order to have data for every pixel.

To a lesser extent, the same is happening when you view an HDTV with any amount of overscan active, or when in one of the modes listed earlier. The TV is zooming in slightly on the original image, which requires it to modify every pixel in the image to fit. Look at it this way, if you?re watching a Blu-ray, or a 1080i image from cable/satellite, that image has a specific pixel for every one of the actual pixels on your TV. A 1:1 map, if you will. If the TV has overscan active, or is zooming in slightly, now it?s more like a 1:0.9 map. The TV has to scale the image.

Regardless of how good the scaler is in the TV, this is going to increase noise and artifacts, and potentially reduce resolution (if it can?t scale the image well).

Find this control on your TV, and for the best picture, set it to Just Scan, 1:1, Full, Native, Dot-by-Dot and so on. You?ll be able to tell which is the right one, as when you?re watching a 1080i or 1080p image, it will appear to zoom out slightly, and you?ll see more of the picture?s edges.

A few exceptions
Occasionally, you?ll find a channel or program that has some weird, non-picture data on the edge of the screen, usually only a few pixels wide. If this bothers you, well, now you know where the control is to zoom in and clip it off. But this is pretty rare these days.

One other use for this control is zooming in on a 16x9 image that resides in a 4x3 window. For example, on my AT&T U-verse, BBC America is available only?in standard definition (thanks a lot AT&T). So if I want to watch the 16x9 "Top Gear" it?s only viewable with black bars on the sides (SD is 4x3) and on the top and bottom (because it?s 16x9 within the 4x3). Obviously I don?t, I buy the show in HD on iTunes, but you get my point. In this case, you could zoom in on the image, to better fill the screen with the tiny program. Keep in mind, this will likely look like crap.

However, and this is a HUGE deal, you should only be doing this rarely and for the few channels not available in HD. If you are doing this a lot, especially with network shows, you are likely not set up correctly for HD. (Check out my article on How to Set Aspect Ratio on Your TV.)

If you?re black-bar-ophobic, there are often modes that stretch the entire 4x3 standard definition image to fill the screen, or the more, uh, clever of these modes that keep the center of the image at?the correct aspect ratio, and only stretch the edges. It?s worth noting that using either of these modes is quite possibly the worst your TV will ever look, and should be avoided if at all possible.

This is almost always the default setting for TVs in hotels, which is one of the main reasons hotel TVs look so terrible.

Source boxes
All cable/satellite boxes and Blu-ray players have aspect ratio settings, ?too. The wrong setting will provide a distorted, lower resolution image. Most on-screen menus ask you to select your TV aspect ratio. For all current HDTVs this would be 16:9. If set to 4:3, the image will be badly distorted. Make sure your source box is set to the 16:9 image setting.

Most boxes also?will ask for an output resolution setting. Choices will? include 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. With 1080p TVs (most current models), this control should be set to 1080i (some cable/satellite boxes also allow 1080p output, but it only applies to pay per view movies).

Blu-ray players should be set to 1080p. Many offer a 1080p/24 setting, though not all TVs can do anything with this frame?rate. Most Blu-ray players will have a test mode to verify that your TV can accept the resolution prior to making the final setting.

If you have a 720p TV, you can set the cablebox to either 720p or 1080i, though the latter is probably better. If you choose 720p, the signal will be ideal for 720p content such as ABC and Fox but 1080i content (used by CBS, NBC, HBO and others) will be down converted in the box. It?s likely your TV will do a better job de-interlacing and downconverting 1080i content than your cablebox, so choosing 1080i output is likely better. Also, most non-1080p TVs these days are actually 1,024 x 768, slightly more vertical resolution than 720p. So you may squeeze a few extra lines of resolution when watching 1080i content by choosing the 1080i output.

Conclusion
The short version? Ideally you?d watch all HD content set to fill the screen, with no overscan. Check your settings, there may be aspect ratio controls, and separate overscan controls.

?While most Blu-ray players will auto-detect the correct aspect ratio (nearly always 16x9), DVD players and cable/satellite boxes do not. Check the settings of these as well to make sure they?re sending your TV the correct aspect ratio (and resolution!). I always watch TV with the overscan off and in a 1:1 pixel mapping mode, and it has been years since I?ve seen noise on the edges of the screen. Check both controls, your TV may look better?? for free!

Map Your Business - Home-Based Business In A Box

by radiantrose on May 20, 2012

I?ve met some amazing people in my life and I have great admiration for the ways each one of them expresses their greatness. Some of the younger people don?t have the battle scars and the bashes and knocks that some of us have but they show their greatness in other ways.

One of the people I really admire is Mark Joyner. He has done some amazing things in his life and I?m sure has his own bashes and knocks to prove it. Mark has this uncanny ability to take life ?how it is? and turn it into a system of ?how life should be.?

That system is called Simpleology. It is absolute genius.
I?ll give you an example. I?m a doer, I am dominant in three of the four personality styles. When I?m on a roll, look out. I started with Simpleology 101 and it made me MORE efficient
and MORE focused than I already was. I?m not what you would call a genius or anything like that but it was making me really, really, good at what I thought I was already really good at. . . taking it over the top!

I suggest that if you?re having trouble getting organized or you don?t know where to start with your home-based business that you subscribe to this free program. If you want to map the direction you want to go and to show yourself how to get there, you?ve got to try this. . . it?s like turbo-charging your life, your business so efficiently and so simply that you?ll wonder how you managed without it . . . in only 15 minutes a day. Check it out at: http://tinyurl.com/lodlbt

You?ll have more time left over to do the things you love to do and that are good for you?

Cubs RHP Kerry Wood retires after 13-plus seasons

CHICAGO (AP) ? Kerry Wood arrived in the majors 14 years ago, a fresh-faced kid with No. 34 on his back, slinging fastballs at 100 mph, delivering breaking pitches that were often unhittable and striking out 20 batters in just his fifth start.

On Friday, he left the game after one final, emotional appearance with the Chicago Cubs.

Fittingly, "Kid K" struck out the last batter he'll ever face and retired at the age of 34, ending a career that was eye-popping at times but hampered by injuries.

"I had a blast. I wouldn't trade it in. I learned from the injuries, I learned about my body and what it takes to compete and go out and play every day," Wood said after his final game, a 3-2 loss to the White Sox.

"Mentally and physically we get to this point," Wood said. "Every player gets to this point where we don't all get to choose when, we don't all get to have a say in it. But I was fortunate enough to play this game a long time in a great city in front of the best fans in baseball. ... It was time."

Wood struck out Dayan Viciedo on three pitches, the last one a swing and a miss, in the eighth inning before he was replaced by bench coach Jamie Quirk ? manager Dale Sveum had been ejected earlier. His teammates joined Wood on the mound to congratulate him and he left to a rousing ovation. Even White Sox slugger Adam Dunn doffed his batting helmet and clapped for Wood as he stood at first base.

Wood hugged his son as he reached the dugout, then lifted the boy into his arms. Moments later, he came out for a curtain call and waved his cap to the fans.

"I felt like I was getting ready to pitch my first inning. The adrenaline was the same, the nerves were the same. I can't give enough credit to the fans, just a tremendous feeling," Wood said.

Wood went on the disabled list this season with shoulder fatigue ? he was on the DL more than a dozen times during his career ? and had struggled all year. His frustrations were evident when, after a bad outing against the Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field, he tossed his cap and glove into the stands.

"My body wasn't bouncing back this year. I felt like I was putting guys in the 'pen in situations they didn't need to be in. I definitely didn't want to go out with my last inning being me throwing my glove in the seats," Wood said. "I wanted to put up a zero or at least get one guy out."

One of his best friends, starter Ryan Dempster, said he would really miss Wood's presence in the clubhouse

"It will be tough not seeing him out there pitching," Dempster said as Wood was shagging fly balls with his son before the game. "He's been a great friend and a great teammate and a great Chicago Cub."

Coming into the year, Wood was 86-73 with a 3.64 ERA and 63 saves. He left the Cubs as a free agent in December 2008, signing with the Cleveland Indians for two years and $20.5 million. He was traded to the Yankees in July 2010, becoming Mariano Rivera's setup man, but he remained loyal to Chicago.

"Most every day he went out there, especially before he had the arm surgery, he had no-hit stuff," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who was Wood's teammate from 2000-02 with the Cubs and then managed him in New York. "Loved playing with him. He loved to play the game. He really did."

Wood returned to the Cubs in 2011, when he went 3-5 with a 3.35 ERA in 55 relief appearances before shutting it down because of a tear in his left knee that required arthroscopic surgery. In January, Wood agreed to play for the Cubs again for $3 million ? double his 2011 pay ? with a $3 million club option for 2013.

It was no secret that Wood wanted to remain a Cub. He lives in Chicago year-round, and the team's new regime had made it clear the feelings were mutual. New president of baseball operations Theo Epstein called it a "no-brainer" move to bring back the popular reliever.

Wood, after all, came of age as an athlete in Chicago and his games have provided some welcome bright spots for a franchise that infamously hasn't won a World Series in more than a century.

The Cubs' No. 1 selection in the 1995 amateur draft was a 20-year-old rookie when he delivered one of the greatest pitching performances of all time. On May 6, 1998, he allowed only one hit, a third-inning single by Ricky Gutierrez, in a 2-0 victory over the Houston Astros. It was his fifth major league start.

As the game progressed and with rain falling, Wood's stuff was never better. Throwing fastballs at 100 mph and with his slider dipping around the Houston bats, Wood didn't walk a batter, hit one with a pitch and gave up that lone infield single on a ball Cubs third baseman Kevin Orie couldn't come up with.

When he fanned Bill Spiers in the ninth for his 19th strikeout, Wood tied the National League record. He struck out Derek Bell to end the game and tie Roger Clemens' major league mark (the two still remain the only major league pitchers to do it in a nine-inning game).

"I didn't know how many strikeouts I had. I knew I had already given up a hit in the third inning," Wood later recalled. "I was just trying to get my first complete game."

He added: "I'll never forget it. It's a great moment in my life and my career."

Wood said his slider was his main weapon that day as he struck out the side in the first, fifth, seventh and eighth innings, fanned two each in the second, fourth and ninth, and one each in the third and the sixth. Wood threw 122 pitches, 84 for strikes, and got a congratulatory phone call from Clemens afterward.

"The age, as hard as he threw, the command and the poise that he had on the mound, nothing bothered him that day," Gutierrez recalled. "After the game, we just took our hats off to him. He did a great job. There's nothing you can take away from him."

Wood struck out 13 in seven innings his next outing, setting a big league record for strikeouts in back-to-back games. Clemens and Nolan Ryan, whose No. 34 Wood wore on his back, are fellow Texans and the pitchers who most inspired the 6-foot-5, 225-pound Wood, who is from Irving, Texas.

Wood finished the 1998 season ranked third in the NL in strikeouts and won the league's Rookie of the Year award. He missed the final month with a sore right elbow, then had reconstructive elbow surgery the next April, starting a run of arm and shoulder problems that undercut his career. He missed the entire 1999 season.

He had three double-figure victory seasons from 2001-03, and in 2003 he helped the Cubs reach Game 7 of the NL championship series, where he was the losing pitcher despite hitting a home run against the Florida Marlins.

Shoulder problems nearly ended his career, but he made a stirring comeback and a successful transition to the bullpen, emerging as the Cubs' closer in 2008 and converting 34 of 40 save opportunities.

"The shoulder was a lot tougher in the end there, in '05 and '06, was the toughest thing to come back from," Wood recalled. "But you come back from it because you love the game of baseball and you love competing. You love being in that clubhouse with 24 other guys."

Steve Stone, the Cy Young Award winner who has been a broadcaster for both the Cubs and White Sox, said Wood threw across his body and that put undue stress on his arm.

"He came up with as good of stuff as anyone who ever came into this league. You talk about (Stephen) Strasburg and the impact (Doc) Gooden had, the reality is Kerry's stuff was better than both of those guys," Stone said.

"Kerry had the 100 mph fastball. He had an unhittable curveball. He had an unhittable slider. And that day in his fifth major league start he got them all over the plate. He didn't walk anybody. It was absolutely phenomenal," Stone said. "I think the hopes and prayers of the Cubs fans, seeing that, said this is a guy that's going to rival Ferguson Jenkins. ... But it was a fatal flaw in his delivery that was his undoing."

Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija said Wood's influence was heavy on him as he grew up in Indiana.

"I remember being a kid and my dad reading an article about Kerry working out in the pool and that's why he threw 98 (mph). So my dad, the next day, has me in the pool kicking floaties around," Samardzija said. "For a kid growing up in the Midwest, that's what Kerry was to us kids.

"When we were coming up, that's the dude you wanted to be. That's how you wanted to throw."
